Founded in 1909, Gilera is best known for its sports and racing bikes from the 1950s and for its World Championship titles from 1950-1957. But in the 1910s and 1920s, its range above all included road bikes with strong and durable engines.
This Gilera 500cc belonged to a certain Francesco Castagne, from the Genoa region, before our client bought it at the end of 1986. It was then completely restored to compete in historic motorsport events, but no major changes were made and it could easily be returned to its configuration for use on the road. With its fuel tank mounted between the frame tubes, parallelogram fork, expansion brakes, three-speed gearbox and side-valve engine, it has all the characteristics of a good-quality bike from the 1920s, along with Gilera's high standard of construction. A charming way to travel back in time.
